BMW Timing Chains

Signs that you may need to replace your timing chain.

  • Ticking sound when you start the car – this can mean that your timing chain has stretched or worn
  • Your car won’t start – this can be because a broken timing chain is not allowing the engine to get going.

If you experience either of these or if you haven’t had your timing chain replaced for a while, get in touch with the team at DRW Services. It’s recommended that you have your BMW/Mini timing chain replaced at around 90,000 miles or 9 years, though we have experienced timing chain issues from as low as 24,000 miles to as high as 160,000 miles. Not all examples are exactly the same; it depends a lot on the maintenance and individual use. This can be applied to both petrol and diesel vehicles. If you are at all concerned about the condition of your timing chain, bring your BMW or Mini into our workshop in Hurlford, and we’ll check it out, report back and of course, we can replace it if required.
